History and use
This nifo’oti type club is characterised by the hook at one end of its blade. Indeed, the name nifo’oti translates as ‘tooth at the end.’ This particular style of club is unique to Samoa and is believed to have originated as an imitation of the European steel billhooks (an agricultural tool) that were traded widely throughout the Pacific in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

This example was donated to Queensland Museum in the 1980s.
