History and use
This coconut fibre gauntlet, which has been studded with shark teeth, forms part of a set of body armour from the Micronesian nation of Kiribati. When dressed in full body armour, I-Kiribati warriors would wear a rigid cuirass and back plate with helmet and leggings. Coconut fibre armour from Kiribati is the most developed form of body protection in the Pacific.
