History and use
This ear pendant has been carved from Westland nephrite and was donated the to museum attached to a wooden club (E15419.1). The cord attaching the pendant to the club is made from synthetic fibre and is likely not original to the object. According to original register documentation, the object was given to the collector by a "Maori Chief" when aged 17-18 in 1890. The club and pendant passed to the donor in 1958 and was acquired by Queensland Museum in 1993.
