History and use
This bag from Santa Cruz (Temotu) in Solomon Islands was collected by J.J. Barry, who was Clerk in the Pacific Island Labour Branch of the Immigration Department from 1883 to 1885. Barry acquired his collection from various government agents and ship's captains who worked on labour trade vessels.

The bag has been woven on a loom using banana leaf fibre
