History and use
This belt or waist band from Kiribati is made from whale bone that has been cut into sections and threaded onto natural fibre string. The belt was formerly from the collection of Capt. W.H. Lawrence, who worked on Labour Trade vessels in the Pacific from 1883 to 1900.
