History and use
Pigs play an important role in social and economic life in Melanesia. This pig-shaped feeding bowl from Temotu Province in Solomon Islands was acquired by Queensland Museum in 1896. Similar examples are illustrated in James Edge-Partington's "An Album of the Weapons, Tools, Ornaments, Articles of Dress of the Natives of the Pacific Islands, Drawn and Described from examples in public and private collections in England" (Pl. 159)
