History and use
This shield is made in Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) style, and was given to the collector by a Solomon Islander who was a labourer in the Howard-Childers area of Queensland. At the time, South Sea Islanders were being used as a cheap form of labour in the Australian sugar industry.

This shield is part of the Australian South Sea Islander Kastom Collection.
