Description
Egyptian, blue faience beads from incomplete necklace. A total of 17 seperate beads comprise the necklace. Seven are composed of faience, including 3 cylinder beads, and 4 teardrop shaped beads, all broken, and the largest of these depicting a 'symbolic eye' design. The remainder are an assortment of small ring beads and one blue glass beads. Beads are likley to be original which have been restrung as tourist piece.

Egyptian faience is a ceramic material with a siliceous body and brightly coloured glaze.
Faience (composed of quartz, alkaline salts [natron or plant ash], lime, and metallic mineral-based colorant)
Glaze (formed by alkali and lime reacting with silica to form the glaze)
History and use
This necklace of irreguar beads of irregular shape and sizes is not an authentic artefact from Ancient Egypt. It was likely made for the tourist market and purchased by unsuspecting tourists. One oval bead may represent an evil eye.
