Description
Glazed pottery fragment. Rectangular in shape, with mid-green glazed portion, semi-circular in shape, with sediment covering glaze. Internal surface is unglazed and undecorated, and has a raised semi-circular pottery ring. Possible plate.

Inclusions (quartz) to make the clay less sticky, reduce shrinkage, increase resistance to thermal shock and strength prior to firing.
History and use
This is a fragment of glazed green pottery with plain green glaze on one side. Islamic potters were concerned with the richness of colour and decoration. Pottery vessels can be glazed and painted with elegant, stylized motifs and/or calligraphy.
