History and use
This selection of limestone fragments, said to be from the Pyramid of Cheops, Giza, Egypt. Limestone was used as a building material in the ancient world, including Ancient Egypt. Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mostly of calcite. It was easy to cut and durable but heavy.
