Vessel, pottery fragment, handle
Object detail
Description
Fragment of pottery, coarse, dark-coloured terracotta bowl, looped handle. Possibly Roman. The piece is a handle fragment from an unidentified vessel, the paste is greyish-brown and the surface pinkish-brown. The texture is reasonably fine with some inclusions, the fracture is jagged. The handle is wide and thick, rounded with a semi-flattened profile and countersunk. There are very slight ridges (3?) runnin along the handle, the top of the handle merges with the rim of the vessel which angles outward to meet. The wall of the vessel is markedly thin in comparison to the thickness of the handle. There is no obvious joint between handle and wall, there is slight evidence of slicing on both sides of the handle.
