History and use
Large wooden swords such as this are unique to the Aboriginal people of the North Queensland Rainforest region. This sword was made in 1996 by Russell Butler, an Elder of the Bandjin and Warrgamay people of the Hinchinbrook Island region.
Russell later sold this item, along with several others, to the Queensland Museum Network, for the inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander exhibition held at the Museum of Tropical Queensland (2000-2005).
