Description
Crucible. The piece is a small crucible, the paste is off white to greyish brown. The texture is course with a scattering of dark inclusions. The vessel is thin walled, triangular at the rim, circular at the base, the lower two thirds of the vessel are suggesting burning (?) and there are bright orange stains on both interior and exterior.

History and use
This objct is a ceramic crucible which was used as mixing vessels, where metals (copper, alloy, leaded bronze) or other substances were melted and heated at high temperatures. Their form varies through time, and there was marked regional variation.
