Coconut leaf and midrib of leaf. The fish was green when first made; over time, as the leaf dried out, the colour turned yellow.

This object is a child’s toy. The traditional name of the toy fish is ige.

This item is part of Alice Hunai’s collection of Vanuatu material culture, created in the 1980s. In Townsville, Alice Hunai sells many of these woven fish to people of all ages.
