Coconut leaf and midrib of leaf. The bird was green when first made; over time, as the leaf dried out, the colour turned yellow.

This object is a child’s toy. The traditional name of the toy bird is manu.

This item is part of Alice Hunai’s collection of Vanuatu material culture, created in the 1980s. In Townsville, Alice Hunai sells many of these woven birds to people of all ages.
