History and use
On Pentecost, Vanuatu, balagave baskets are used by unmarried men and women during village ceremonies, to collect food prepared by the host village. In preparation for the ceremonial feast, many of these baskets are woven by the host village to be used by visiting villagers, and discarded after use.
