History and use
This fibreglass oranment was used on the front of a Queensland Railways 2000 Class Rail Motor.

In 1956, the Ipswich Railway Workshops designed and built a prototype two-car rail motor unit. These became the first members of the 2000 Class. One car was a passenger only vehicle with seating capacity for 54. The second had seating for 42 with a 100 square feet capacity luggage compartment. The units were sheeted in satin finished aluminium.

The 2000 Class proved to be very popular, being easy riding and pleasant to travel in, even though they were not air-conditioned, which meant that the travel experience could get quite hot during summer. They were used extensively around the state, being equally at home on suburban workings in Brisbane or on country branch lines.

Apart from the prototype, all the 2000 Class Rail Motors were built by Commonwealth Engineering in Rocklea between 1959 and 1971.
