History and use
This Pay Tin Tray was used in the Central Division Pay Office, part of the Rockhampton administrative section of Queensland Rail. These pay tins were in continuous use until the implementation of direct banking of pays in 1990. Prior to this, tins were used to hold the pays and transport them to individual work places.
The tins were colour coded, depending on the workplace units, so brown tins with white numbers were for staff in Administration while red tins with white numbers were for staff in Rolling Stock.
