History and use
Pocket or portable stoves were invented in the nineteenth century. This particular example was manufactured by Whitall, Tatum & CO. The precise year of production is unknown but is likely to date from between 1920 and 1940.

There are several categories of portable stove based on design and fuel type used. This is an unpressurised liquid fuel stove that only burns alcohol.

This object was donated by the Marks family. The Marks family were a prominent Brisbane family that made significant contributions to the fields of science and medicine.
