Description
White Painted Ware Jug, slightly uneven barrel shaped body with conical bosses at either end. Narrow cylindrical neck with neck ridge at handle join, flaring to funnel mouth with wide everted rim. Vertical handle, oval in section, from mid-neck to shoulder. Red brown clay with thick buff-brown slip, decorated in matt brown dark paint. Four thin vertical encircling bands, framed by thick encircling bands on either side of the body. A spiral of three to four thin concentric bands, framed by thick concentric bands on each boss, solid paint on 'nipples'. Barrel Flask - Flared mouth, short neck, barrel body, strap handle. Small boss each side of body. Body pale brown, wheel thrown. Decoration dark brown, 2 concentric bands on body, rings around bosses. Rings around neck and lip. Bands around outside of handle, 2 hatched fish shapes.

History and use
The oval body and concentric circles on the sides of the vessel reflect a barrel, while a stylised geometric the fish motif has been painted below the neck. Stylised fish were a well known design feature on Cypriot jugs. Birds and fish sometimes appear together- sometimes fish are depicted dangling from a birds beak.
