History and use
German wagons were popular as general farm wagons, particularly in south eastern Queensland with a large German population. The wagon was extensively damaged in the 1981 fire of Bill Bolton's Australiana (Cobb & Co) Museum in Toowoomba. The floor and sides were completely rebuilt in 1990 using spotted gum but the original iron work was intact and re-used.
The pole was cut short and used as a towbar because many German wagons continued to work on small farms from the 1940s, with the two horses replaced by a tractor.
