History and use
Made by John Clifford from Birmingham, around 1913–1914, this sterling silver manicure set was a gift to Miss Vera Heaslop for her marriage to George Roydon Howard Gill on Wednesday 24 June 1914.

The tradition of giving gifts to the bride and groom has varied across the world. Many different practices have been brought to Queensland and have even transformed over time. Brides from various cultures have often prepared for marriage by making and purchasing clothing and linen, collecting the pieces together in a glory box or trousseau chest. Household items were common gifts for the married couple to establish their new homes, with gift registries created in department stores during the 1920s.
