Object detail

Description
Red on Black Ware pottery shallow bowl, or 'dipper'. Hemispherical with rounded base and plain incurving rim. Horizontal loop handle, oval in section, on stem below rim, arching above rim. Pale buff clay with lime inclusions. Polished dark brown slip both inside and out, worn on handle. Decorated in matt red paint. On interior and exterior four bands of three parallel wavy lines pendent from rim, produced by a mulitple brush and forming a cross, meeting but not joining on base. In several instances these are carelessly applied and run together to form a solid band of paint. Rim slightly chipped.
