History and use
Electrotherapies have been in use since 1800s for the treatment of a range of medical conditions. This approach was largely discontinued as understanding of physiology and epidemiology improved in the twentieth century.
This particular electroshock machine was sold by Karl Zoeller, a well-known supplier of medical equipment in Brisbane at the beginning of the twentieth century.
