History and use
This poster was created for Sir Johannes "Joh" Bjelke-Petersen’s successful 1983 electoral campaign. Sir Joh was the longest-serving Premier of Queensland, holding office from 1968 to 1987. This was a period of unprecedented economic growth for Queensland, however Bjelke-Petersen’s uncompromising conservatism polarised opinion. His political longevity and his leadership of a government that, in its later years, was the subject of high-profile corruption inquiries made him one of the best-known political figures in twentieth-century Australia. This poster was signed in 1991 and sold to raise funds to help fight a perjury charge resulting from the Fitzgerald Inquiry into police misconduct.
