History and use
This medallion was sold to raise funds for French children during World War 1. During the War, a multitude of organisations raised funds for the war effort and those affected, at home and overseas. France became home for most of the Australian servicemen men and women, many of whom also supported humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of French civilians. The proceeds from the sale of these medallions were used to buy “clothing [for] the children of our soldiers”.
