History and use
This photograph depicts the William Jolly Bridge under construction between 1928 and 1931. The bridge's arched steel spans are being lifted into place. Located on Grey Street, the bridge was the first major work commissioned by the new Brisbane council, formed when Greater Brisbane was established in 1925. It was named after the first mayor of the new council, William Alfred Jolly, and is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register.
