History and use
In this image, a group of men are pushing the wheels of Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith's aircraft, the 'Southern Cross'. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith had just made aviation history after flying from San Francisco to Honolulu, then to Fiji (the longest flight over open ocean) and finally to Brisbane in 1928, when this photograph was taken.
From the collection of early 20th Century freelance photographer, Mr Fred Port.
