History and use
Jacks Day was first organised in 1918 by the King George Fund to raise funds for naval servicemen and mercantile marine sailors and their dependants following their service during World War 1. Fundraising events were held over several weeks from November that year, with Jacks Day itself falling on 29 November. Jacks Day fundraising events were also held during World War 2.
