History and use
This sample bag advertises MacRobertson's Freddo Mask. Freddos are a childhood favourite chocolate. Show bags, with samples of the wares of different manufacturers and organisations, have been a distinctive feature of the Ekka for many years. As a memento, they are an important part of many peoples experience of the Ekka. Many sample bags, like this one, have a craft component that extend the enjoyment of the bag beyond the content.

Sample bags were designed to provide samples of products produced specifically at Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka), Brisbane. The Ekka is a 10 day annual festival officially titled the Royal Queensland Show, though it has had several names over the years. For the people of Brisbane the Ekka has been a major feature of the calendar for over 130 years, with many attending year after year. It is a special favourite for children.

Part of a collection of show memorabilia donated to the Museum by the Chantler family, this sample bag is one of over 50 in the Queensland Museum collection.
