History and use
Jaffas have an iconic part of many people’s cinema experiences in Queensland. This sample bag advertises Sweet Acres Jaffas, which have been manufactured in Australia and New Zealand since the 1930s. Show bags, with samples of the wares of different manufacturers and organisations, have been a distinctive feature of the Ekka for many years.

Sample bags were designed to provide samples of products produced specifically at Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka), Brisbane. The Ekka is a 10 day annual festival officially titled the Royal Queensland Show, though it has had several names over the years. For the people of Brisbane the Ekka has been a major feature of the calendar for over 130 years, with many attending year after year.

Part of a collection of show memorabilia donated to the Museum by the Chantler family, this showbag is one of over 50 in the Queensland Museum collection.
