History and use
This sample bag advertises Bluebell Golden Honeycomb, a product of Brisbane's Bell Confectionary Company. Show bags, with samples of the wares of many different manufacturers and organisations, have been a distinctive feature of the Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka) for many years. As a memento, they are an important part of many peoples experience of the Ekka.
The Ekka is a 10 day annual festival officially titled the Royal Queensland Show, though it has had several names over the years. For the people of Brisbane the Ekka has been a major feature of the calendar for over 130 years, with many attending year after year. It is a special favourite for children.
Part of a collection of show memorabilia donated to the Museum by the Chantler family, this sample bag is one of over 50 sample bags in the Queensland Museum collection.
