History and use
This sample bag advertises Tafe's Superior Sweets, a small company based on the outskirts of Brisbane who advertised their products here on this bag as sophisticated, genteel sweets for the city dweller.
Show bags, with samples of the wares of many different manufacturers and organisations, have been a distinctive feature of the Royal Queensland Show (the Ekka) for many years. As a memento, they are an important part of many peoples experience of the Ekka.
The Ekka is a 10 day annual festival officially titled the Royal Queensland Show, though it has had several names over the years. For the people of Brisbane the Ekka has been a major feature of the calendar for over 130 years, with many attending year after year. It is a special favourite for children.
Part of a collection of show memorabilia donated to the Museum by the Chantler family, this sample bag is one of over 50 sample bags in the Queensland Museum collection.
