Description
Zinc survey mark, made from a rectangular zinc tag with a hole in each corner, used to nail the tag to a post. There are three numbers and two letters stamped into the tag. There are two hand-made, zinc nails attached to the top left and top right corners of the tag. The nails are square in cross-section with circular, flattened heads.

History and use
This Zinc tag was attached to a border post on the South Australian and Queensland border surveyed between 1879 and 1881 by Augustus Poeppel. The stamp '473 P B' refers to the border post that is 473 miles from the north bank of the Murray River and the P B for Province Boundary. The tag was found by South Australian Surveyor, John Keane when he was re-surveying the South Australian and Queensland border.
