History and use
The Model 3A Sunbeam Mixmaster was one of the first line of Mixmasters ever produced and distributed from the United States to customers worldwide. Invented by Ivar Jepson, the Mixmaster was widely marketed and sold in Australia from 1930.
The mixer came with two detachable beaters, and its motor was encased in an ivory coloured perpendicular, pivoting body that extended out over the interchangeable Jadite glassware bowls.
By the end of the 1930s the machine could peel and juice fruit and vegetables, grind coffee, and open cans among other functions. Despite the Great Depression, the Mixmaster was extremely popular in Australia. It was imported from America until 1948, when the first Sunbeam Mixmaster (and indeed the first small household electrical appliance) was manufactured in Australia.
