History and use
This jug cover was made by Queensland embroidery champion Mary Dwyer (1894-1993). Mary Elizabeth Dwyer nee Hogan was born into a farming family on the Darling Downs, Queensland, where she was taught the rudiments of needlework. This began a lifelong interest in embroidery, which resulted in her winning numerous prizes at country and city shows across eastern Australia from the 1930s to the 1960s. For Mrs Dwyer, embroidery was not just a hobby; she used her prize money to educate her three sons.
