History and use
This souvenir dish depicts the Townsville Railway Station. While not necessarily a tourist destination today, the railway was a key part of tourism transport in Queensland in the first half on the twentieth century.
This dish is part of a collection of ceramic souvenir items held by the museum, dated from the 1920s to the 1960s, showing that most areas of Queensland have been promoted. Most of the souvenir items depict features locally regarded as important or symbolic. The use of souvenirs is widespread and relies on both local and international manufacturers for supply, sometimes from the most unlikely places.
