History and use
During World War 1 hundreds of recruitment posters, cards and leaflets were produced in a bid to encourage men to enlist. Production of the posters began almost immediately war broke out and intensified as the War went on. This poster targeting Queenslanders was produced before the withdrawal from Gallipoli in December 1915 and depicts two maps, one of south eastern Europe and the other focusing upon the Gallipoli area. An Australian soldier points to this area. The poster reads "Queenslanders your country calls" along the top and "We're coming lads hold on!" in the bottom right hand corner. This poster was one of many that used emotive appeals to patriotism and mateship to encourage men to enlist.
