History and use
This is the fourth page of a condolence letter from Trooper Jim Thompson to Mrs Sullivan following the death of her 18-year-old son George during World War 1’s Battle of Romani in 1916. The Lighthorseman's widowed mother spent the next decade corresponding with the War Office, sorting out her son’s affairs. The family kept this correspondence for many years, finally donating it to the Queensland Museum in 1983. Medallions, photographs and grave information from the military and government often provided all the information families ever had about the deaths of family members.
