History and use
This Nurseryland Kewpie Doll was made by L & I Glenn Pty Ltd in Hawthorne, Victoria. It is an important representation of Australian toy making as few black coloured dolls were manufactured.

Kewpie Dolls are based on the illustrations of Rose O'Neill. The dolls were highly popular in the early 1900s and were produced in Germany, Belgium, France and later in Japan.

The Kewpie Doll is also one of the earliest examples of mass toy manufacturing.
