History and use
This tin plate wind-up bird was made in England by Triang Toys. Triang was a brand name of the Lines Brothers toy manufacturing company. London-based Lines Bros Ltd was best known for the production of model railways and cars, but at their peak were in fact the parent company for around 40 other toy producers around the world, including such well-known brands as Meccano, Dinky Toys and Scalextrics, and owners of the famous Hamley’s toy store. These tin plate toys were made from flat metal sheets printed with a lithograph design. The metal was then cut and shaped by assemblers, tested and boxed. This bird is from the MINIC range, produced from 1935 into the early 1970s. It was designed to peck and shuffle its feet when wound with a key.
