History and use
This garment was made by Queensland designer Mark Wilson, who began the 'Hairy Dog' fashion label in July 1990 in Brisbane at the age of 16. He designed and sewed clothes with a theatrical 70s influence. The clothes appealed to a young audience and were popular with 'dance party' attendees and others at a time when laws and social attitudes attempted to restrict behaviour, especially of the LGBT communities.
