History and use
Spencer Cottee was a Victorian dairy farmer who diversified in 1924 to produce a cordial, "Passiona", made from passionfruit juice. The name of the drink Passiona (pash-ona) is commonly mispronounced with an extra "e" syllable in the middle.

In 1927 Cottee established the Cottee's brand and soon made carbonated drinks as well as cordials. The "Coola" cordial flavour (lime) became a nation favourite.

Passiona was enjoyed by such notable people as Lady de Chair, the wife of the Governor of New South Wales and Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. Cottee's drinks raise fond memories of childhood for many Australians.

Cottee's was purchased by General foods in 1965 and is currently owned by Asahi Breweries since 2009.
