History and use
Steel helmets were adopted by all combatants on the Western Front, in an effort to counter artillery shrapnel injuries.

Commonwealth and American Expeditionary Forces on the Western Front all used the British Brodie steel helmet which, although weighing 0.6 kilograms, could withstand the impact of pistol bullet fired at close range.

This is a later Mk III variant used by Australian military and civil defence personnel during the Second World War.
