History and use
In 1862, the explorer William Landsborough and his team travelled in search of a practical livestock route from the Gulf of Carpentaria to the the Warrego River, near Cunnamulla. This tree section is believed to be one of the many that Landsborough blazed to mark this route. It comes from Terrick Terrick Station, Blackall. While the markings are unclear, the blaze has been dated 26th April 1862.
Landsborough's route paved the way for extensive non-Indigenous pastoral activity and settlement in western and north-western Queensland from the 1860s.
