History and use
This camera timing device was used to coordinate aerial photography, timing shots according to the movements of the plane and in some cases delaying capture until a designated time after take off. It was owned by early freelance news photographer, Fred Port, who operated a studio in Queen Street, Brisbane in the early twentieth century.
Queensland Museum owns a large collection of Port’s camera equipment and resulting photographs. These items tell the story of early twentieth century professional photography in Queensland, including aviation and war photography conducted here and overseas.
