The Little Sydney Pottery

Biography
Little Sydney Pottery was established in 1955 by German immigrants, Lisalotte (aka Lilo or Lillian) Pakulski (1924-) and Wladyslaw (Bill) Paukulski (1922-) at Gibbes Street, Rockdale in Sydney. Initially Lilo began working with ‘Diana’ pottery a few short years after arriving in Australia in 1949. In 1953 Lilo left Diana and helped set up the Anna Studio in Neutral Bay, Sydney, then a studio at Marrickville which was closer to where she was living. By 1955, Lilo and Bill sold their home in Bankstown and established a studio at Rockdale which became known as ‘The Little Studio’. They had success with regular customers and would set off throughout Queensland selling their wares form a car. Lilo stated she was “hesitant about using them (indigenous motifs) but it was what people wanted. I bought a small book from the Museum and studied the photos”.
