In 1875 The State Education Act 1875 was passed and created the Department of Public Instruction.

1848 The Board of National Education was appointed to undertake the task of creating government schools similar to the National Schools in Ireland.

1850 The first Queensland government school, Warwick National School opened.

1860 The Education Act 1860 provided a Board of General Education for Queensland.

1875 The State Education Act 1875 was passed and created the Department of Public Instruction.

1957 The Department of Public Instruction became the Department of Education.
