Martha Ohl

Biography
Martha Ohl was the eldest of six children born to Joseph and Mary Ann Dunn. Martha was born in 1859 and died at age eighty-three at Midgee (near Rockhampton) Queensland. In 1884,aged twenty-four, she married Christian Ludwig Ohl and later gave to eight children. Martha is buried in Westwood Cemetery. Westwood is a small town on the Rockhampton - Emerald highway, Queensland, Australia about 60 km east of Duaringa.

Martha's parents Joseph Dunn and his wife Mary Ann arrived in Australia on the ship "Kate" in Sydney on 23 December 1856. They travelledwith Joseph's younger brother Henry. The shipping records show that Joseph and Mary Ann, both Church of England, were from Filleigh, Devon and that Henry was from Chittlehampton. The village of Filleigh is 2.5 miles north east of the village Chittlehampton. Joseph was 26, Henry was 15, and Mary Ann was 27, when they arrived in Australia. Joseph and Mary Ann were living at Coonambula in Queensland, Australia at the time of their daughter's (Martha's) birth in 1859. In May 1848 David and Thomas Archer took up land on the Burnett River in central Queensland. These 2 runs were Coonambula and Eidsvold.

The 1909 Australian Commonwealth Electoral Rolls, Division of Capricornia, Subdivision of Livingstone show Joseph and Mary Ann Dunn living at Moura Plains, Westwood. Joseph is shown as a farmer, with Mary Ann on home duties. Martha Dunn's Birth Certificate states that her parents, Joseph and Mary Ann Dunn were married in England in 1846. If Joseph was 29 in 1859, he would have been approximately 16 years old when he married. They were actually married on 26 July 1856, about 4 to 5 months before they left for Australia.

Joseph and Mary Ann's daughter, Martha, was shown as living at Nora Plain, Westwood at the time of her marriage to Christian Ludwig Ohl on 11 June 1884.
