The Honourable Donald R Horton was born in 1944. He attended primary school in Ascot Brisbane and then Brisbane Boys College. After high school he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts/Laws Degree from the University of Queensland. He was admitted to the bar in 1973 and practiced law for 16 years. In 1989 he was made a Master of the Supreme Court of Queensland and then in 1990 was made Senior Master of the Supreme Court.

The Honourable Donald Horton died on the 15th August 1991 after committing suicide. According to friends they believed that he committed suicide after threats where made to 'out' him as homosexual. (Sydney Morning Herald 18/8/1991, page 5).
